Wortly

Spaced repetition on FSRS-5

Learn a word once – and keep it

Wortly works out the day you are about to forget a word and shows it exactly then. Ten minutes in the morning instead of an hour of cramming that leaks by Friday.

17 languages to learn

Gender, articles, romanisation and the voice for audio come from the language itself, so a Japanese word is not asked for an article it does not have.

What is inside

Not a course and not a game – a tool for the part of a language that has to be learned by heart anyway.

A schedule that adapts

FSRS-5 predicts recall for every card separately and picks the day when a repetition is worth the most. Easy words leave for months, hard ones stay close.

One word, several cards

Recognising Haus → house and typing it from memory are different skills with different forgetting curves. Each method keeps its own state and its own date.

A dictionary of your own

Add a word in two taps or paste a whole list – it is split into word, translation and example for you. Every translation stays yours to edit.

Modules to share

Collect a word set and keep it to yourself, hand it over by a secret link or publish it. Someone else’s module installs into your dictionary in one tap.

Statistics without flattery

Streak, vocabulary maturity, retention and the forecast of the load for the coming days – the plan, not only the past.

Free and quiet

No subscription, no ads, no limit on words and no notifications begging for a streak. Email, password, and you are in.

Three steps to the first session

  1. Pick a language and a pace

Onboarding asks for your native language, the one you are learning and how many words a day you are ready to take.

  2. Fill the dictionary

Type the words in, paste a list from a lesson, or install a ready module from the library.

  3. Study when it asks

Today’s queue is already waiting on the home screen. Every answer moves the date of the next show.

Nine ways to practise one word

Switch off the ones you do not need – their cards pause and keep the progress they had.

  • Recognition Word → translation
  • Recall Translation → word, in your head
  • Multiple choice Four options, a soft start
  • Typing Type it exactly, article included
  • Listening Hear it, name the meaning
  • Fill the gap The gap in a sentence
  • Speaking soon Say it out loud
  • Matching soon Match the pairs
  • Word forms soon Plural, past, participle

Why intervals beat cramming

Memory drops fastest right after learning. A repetition on the edge of forgetting flattens the curve and stretches the next interval – from ten minutes to months.

  • The interval is counted from the real time between shows, not from an abstract level
  • A wrong answer brings the word back in the same session
  • A missed day costs a date, not the progress of a card

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes – every method, an unlimited dictionary and the full statistics. There is no paid plan.

What can I learn, and in which language?

17 languages to learn; the interface speaks English, Ukrainian, Russian and German.

How is this different from ordinary flashcards?

A word becomes several cards, one per method, and each has a schedule of its own. A word you recognise but cannot spell keeps coming back until you can.

How much time does a day take?

You set the daily goal yourself; twenty words take about ten minutes.

Ten minutes today are worth more than three hours on Sunday

Registration takes half a minute, and the first session starts right after it.
